Programme 2024

The 33 works you can experience at the MediaLab are created by independent thinkers, featuring strong-willed characters, and most importantly, they’re made for kids who like to think for themselves! Being obedient and following the rules? Boring! This year at the MediaLab, you’re rewarded for sometimes not listening and choosing your own way.

Programme 2024

Cinekid MediaLab 2024: You be You!

In a world where we often mirror ourselves against others, it can be hard to truly be yourself. But what does it mean to be yourself? To walk your own path, make your own choices. To discover who you really are and to boldly embrace it. Stubborn? Or just in tune with your own mind!

Interactive experiences

Amarte x Cinekid Open Call MediaLab 2024

Two new interactive art pieces were made within our Amarte x Cinekid Open Call MediaLab 2024: 'Help! There's a bear in my tent' by Marieke van der Burg and Leon van Oldenborgh and 'Nothing to see here' by Sander Veenhof.

HELP! A bear in my tent!

HELP! A bear in my tent!

#worktogether#puzzel#youbeyou
After a nice long walk through the woods, you get back to your tent and – there’s a bear sleeping in it! What to do? Luckily this campsite gives instructions for such things – apparently this happens a lot. But are the instructions adequate? Do you dare come up with your own way of getting the bear out of your tent before he starts his hibernation?
Winners: Marieke van der Burg and Leon van Oldenborgh
Nothing to see here

Nothing to see here

#ar#together#secretgame
What’s it like to have magical powers? Thanks to an AR headset, you can fire a laser beam from your arm that’ll stay in the space for ten seconds – without the people around you knowing. If someone walks through the laser beam, this produces loud noises. Passers-by can also make more weird noises with their movements.
Winner: Sander Veenhof

In the MediaLab, children can experiment with innovative technologies such as augmented reality and artificial intelligence.

Voice in My Head

Voice in My Head

#ai#voiceinyourhead#personalassistant
What would happen if AI were integrated directly into your thoughts? If a nice voice guides you when interacting with people, places and the things you do? A personal assistant will be developed for you based on a few questions. It listens and guides you as you talk to others.
Kyle McDonald - Lauren Lee McCarthy
Desert Daydream

Desert Daydream

#softrobotics#livingplant#pleasedotouch
Did you know that robots can also be cuddly? In this garden, you can bring six huge, soft plants to life! Thanks to technology, movement and light, they are able to respond to your touch. From a gentle stoke to a firm pinch to clapping your hands or the sound of your voice. How will you deal with these idiosyncratic beings?
Air Giants (Emma Powell, Robert Nixdorf, Richard Sewell, Jazlyn Pinckney)
Avatopia

Avatopia

#vr#avatar#dressingup
In this mobile discovery lab, you can design your own avatar and learn all kinds of things about yourself. Which virtual character best suits you? And what effect does it have on you if you can look exactly as you like? Are you still like yourself? Don’t forget to dance and have some fun with your avatar too!
Roos Groothuizen and Ymer Marinus
Out of Body

Out of Body

#vr#watchyourself#meditate
This art project lets you get to know yourself better: take a good look at yourself from the outside by stepping out of your body. Not really of course, but using a VR headset. Other people are often easier to understand than yourself because you can see them from a distance: now you have a chance to see yourself that way.
Jeroen Alexander Meijer

Anouschka

In this augmented reality game, you can help Anouschka discover her various cultural backgrounds and rediscover her passion for music. Like with Pokémon GO, you can walk around with your smartphone and play mini games, watch animations and hear stories. Along the way, you’ll find out who this girl from the Bijlmer neighbourhood is.

Take a look at the full team at the credits page of Ado Ato. Ado Ato founder Tamara Shogaolu talks about games that reconnect us during her keynote at the Cinekid Industry Forum at October 31st.
