About Cinekid x Amarte MediaLab Open Call
For the second year in a row, Amarte Fonds and Cinekid collaborate to give talented creators a chance to make a brand new interactive and immersive installation for Cinekid MediaLab 2024. According to the jury these ideas fit the theme for Cinekid Festival 2024 perfectly. The works will make children feel that they influence their surroundings, and it will show that sometimes you get further by being a little cocky.
Superpowers with AR glasses: 'Nothing to be seen here'
In Sander Veenhof's work 'Nothing to be seen here', you gain superpowers when you put on AR (augmented reality) glasses. With augmented reality, you see both the real world, and a digital layer over that world. Together with your fellow superhero, you can use hand gestures to send digital laser beams into space. Invisible to others, but if they walk through one of your beams, suddenly everyone hears a loud buzzing sound. Or they stumble with great noise PATS BOEM over the digital musical instruments you put down. The jury: "Delightfully experimental, it explores the boundaries of togetherness in a mixed digital and physical world, and it puts children in charge of their environment."
'Help! A bear in my tent!'
Imagine returning from a hike while camping and when you arrive at your tent, you see that a bear has slipped inside and fallen asleep there. What to do? 'Help! A bear in my tent!' by Marieke van der Burg and Leon van Oldenborgh is an interactive tent in a small immersive setting: a campsite in a forest full of bears. On the outside of the tent canvas, you see a projection of a bear's shadow. Are you cocky enough to ignore the advice of the bear helpline and chase the bear out of the tent in your own way? The jury: "What a playful interpretation of the theme! A kind of reversed escape room, where you want to get into the tent instead of out."
