About us

Actively involving children in high-quality media: that's what Cinekid is all about. For over 30 years, the Cinekid Foundation has been committed to stimulating the production of this kind of media for children and to let the children themselves contribute to its creation, with the aim of guiding their media development, helping them learn to view media critically and expanding their world view.

The highpoint of this policy is the annual Cinekid Festival, which is the largest children's media festival in the world. At the main location Pathé Amsterdam Noord and around 40 locations across the country, children aged between 3 and 14 years can watch new, unusual and striking films and television productions and meet their creators. They also get a chance to explore the MediaLab: a digital playground extending across 1200 square meters, filled with interactive art installations, workshops, games and apps. Cinekid for Professionals, an international multi-day event for the children's media industry, also runs during the Cinekid Festival.

Under the title Cinekid Inclusive, children with different backgrounds and from all parts of society are involved through an annual school programme. This extensive programme includes intensive collaboration with asylum seekers’ centres and weekend schools so that all children in the Netherlands have the opportunity to experience Cinekid.

Furthermore, Cinekid offers a variety of educational projects and activities all year round that are aimed at strengthening the position of children in relation to media. These include workshops, Cinekid AppLab, film screenings with the class, and teacher training courses.
