What will you learn?

  • How to develop a shooting script
  • How to define and underline your own voice and style as a director
  • How to discover the maximum potential of a scene
  • How to direct actors: shift the focus to directing the character (not the actor) while guiding the actor through the specific world of the film
  • How to cast and direct child actors: establish a relationship of trust with the child or children and immerse yourself in their world, encouraging and guiding each child to develop their character

Who is it for?

You’re a director working on a feature-length film or series aimed at children. The project should be in advanced development, heading toward production, and a producer should be attached. You should have previous directing experience in children’s film or series, or films for adults, and want to further develop that experience.

Programme info

  • A small group of 5 or 6 directors
  • 5 days in April in Amsterdam
  • Develop your project with support from coaches who are well versed in children’s media
  • Case studies to discuss with the film’s director, workshops, and masterclasses (e.g. casting child actors)
  • Networking opportunities with film professionals
