Why support Cinekid?

Cinekid believes in the power of film and media to keep children’s natural curiosity and open-mindedness alive. Films and media help children to connect with themselves, others, and the world around them, enabling them to better understand challenges in their own lives and society at large. Your support helps Cinekid to achieve its mission and inspire as many children as possible in the Netherlands.

Why support Cinekid?
Education and inclusion

Education and inclusion

Cinekid wants as many children as possible to experience the power of film. That’s why we organize barrier-breaking educational programmes aimed at children who have limited access to culture. We also work together with communities in Amsterdam and with the City of Amsterdam’s Stadspas (City Pass), so that families living below the poverty line can purchase a discounted €1 ticket to the festival. Even better: Cinekid’s travelling Inflatable Cinema brings the film experience to communities throughout the Netherlands – completely free of charge.

A shared experience

A shared experience

Children use screens before they learn to walk. Cinekid encourages them – as well as their parents, guardians, carers, or support workers – to explore the world that lies behind the screen. Discovering other people’s perspectives, opening up discussions, learning from each other: our films, workshops, masterclasses, and the MediaLab help everyone to connect with themselves and others.

Talented filmmakers

Talented filmmakers

Cinekid supports the entire chain of children’s film and media from production to screening. The coaches on Cinekid’s talent development programmes help established and emerging filmmakers to refine their children’s film projects – spurring them to create artistic, diverse, unique, and high-quality youth films and present new stories and perspectives on screen, time and time again.

“It has become a tradition to go with school. For some kids, it's the only chance to go to the cinema.”
- Basisschoolleerkracht uit Amsterdam

Alongside hands-on workshops for skills like directing, camera work, and acting, the children get to experience a real green screen set, learn about special effects, and make their own edits.
