Masterclasses & Toddlers' Workshops

Masterclasses

Create special effects. Practise voice acting. Write a scenario. Join an acting lesson given by real masters of the art. The Cinekid Masterclasses give children a real behind-the-scenes film experience. They’ll get hands-on and learn the tricks of the trade from directors, actors, and other filmmakers. At the end of the masterclass, children will present their creations on the big screen or in front of an audience of other children. The 1.5-hour masterclasses are open to children aged 6 years and above.

Toddlers' Workshops

The Toddlers’ Workshops at Cinekid Festival gives toddlers their very first film and cinema experience. Be sure to join! The workshop starts off with an inspiring screening of one or more episodes of a new toddlers’ series or short. In the subsequent hands-on section, you’ll create your own narrative by exploring what you’ve seen, experimenting with a green screen, and playing with light. Toddlers will love discovering how films are made! Our 1.25-hour Toddlers’ Workshop is open to children aged between 3 and 6 years.

How do you tell a story in a dance? And how do you best portray the story you want to tell? In this workshop inspired by Van binnen stroomt het and given by Dian IJkhout, children are challenged to think up their own choreographies and dance them together. These dances are recorded - for the younger children by the teacher, for the older children by themselves, so that a real dance film can be seen at the end.

A film is not a film without a story. What is the film about, and who? What happens to the characters? These and many other things are written down in the screenplay. This means everyone knows what has to happen. But how do you come up with a good story? Screenwriter Martijn Hillenius (Hotel Sinestra, De regels van Floor and Het Klokhuis, Hein) gives tips on how to create your very own screenplay.

Masterclass Stopmotion animation

Masterclass Stopmotion animation

Not every film is made by filming things moving. Some filmmakers use still photos instead of film recording. Showing all these photos one after the other very quickly creates a film. This is called stop-motion animation. Sauvages, which is set in the jungle, is a great example of this. In this masterclass by Daniël van der Boom, you’ll learn how these animations are made and you can make your own stop-motion animation using simple resources.
