Staartje, a curious little rat, travels through Amsterdam on the North-South metro line. She wants to understand why people always want more, faster, better, bigger… and never seem satisfied.
In this magical-realist film essay, Staartje, a rat born in the Amsterdam metro, takes a witty and sharp-eyed look at the strange behavior of humans. Along her journey she meets a businessman trapped in the rat race, a fortune teller who predicts the futures of greedy people all day long, and an archaeologist sighing over human laziness. The deeper Staartje ventures into the Amsterdam subway, the clearer it becomes: in their endless hunger for more, better, faster, humans show pest-like traits themselves. “And you're calling me a plague?” she wonders.
