Knetter + Time Travel Through Film

In this program, you're not just watching the children’s film classic Knetter together, you’ll also take a brief journey through the history of film and learn what film actually is, in part by creating your own flipbook.

Did you know that a movie is actually made up of thousands of still images shown in rapid succession? What was the very first movie ever made? And have you ever seen a real, old movie projector?

To celebrate Cinekid’s 40th anniversary, Dicky takes you back in time to the early days of film. Using unique vintage film equipment, Dicky will demonstrate live how movies used to be made and shown.

But you won’t just be watching, you’ll also get hands-on. By drawing in your own flipbook, just like the very first filmmakers did, you’ll discover for yourself how still images come to life.

Together, you’ll also take a little trip back in time with a classic children's film from over 20 years ago (2005): Knetter.

About the film

Nine-year-old Bonnie is living with her mother and her grandmother. Lis is a sweet but unusual mother. Luckily grandma is always around to look after things. But when grandma has a traffic accident, everything changes.
