The summer holidays are just around the corner and Cinekid is proud to announce that Koning van de Zwervers kicks off the festival in the autumn holidays.
Cinekid Festival celebrates the festive start on Sunday 12 October with the youth film Koning van de Zwervers. A magical coming-of-age film that makes complex themes accessible to young audiences in a light way, without losing its raw edges. The film will have its world premiere that day at Pathé Noord in Amsterdam. Besides cast and crew, we expect film lovers of all ages.
“Koning van de Zwervers is a debut film that dares. It tells an exciting and moving story through the eyes of a powerful young girl. The film makes complex issues like homelessness, poverty and mental vulnerability accessible to children. At a time when more than 30,000 people in the Netherlands have no permanent place to live, the film gives this invisible group a face.”- Hidde de Vries, Head of Films & Series Cinekid
When the father of Meissy (11) reappears in their town after years of absence, she is immediately smitten. Against her mother's wishes, she secretly seeks him out and becomes enchanted by his colourful tramp life on the streets, full of fantasy, origami cranes and unusual encounters. But then she finds out what her mother tried to warn her about: her father is schizophrenic and suffers from hallucinations and delusions of grandeur.
