Junior Critics

During Cinekid for Professionals Junior Critics get an exclusive preview of a brand-new film or TV series before anyone else. After watching, you'll meet the filmmakers, ask questions and tell them exactly what you think. Your ideas could help shape the final film or series!

Junior Critics

Does your child love films, have lots of opinions and enjoy asking questions? Then Junior Critics is the perfect opportunity.

Every year during Cinekid for Professionals, young audiences get an exclusive first look at brand-new films and TV series that are still in development. Before these projects are finished, filmmakers want to hear directly from the people they’re making them for: children.

As a Junior Critic, your child will watch exclusive preview footage, meet filmmakers from around the world and share honest feedback that could help shape the final film or series.

What is Junior Critics?

Junior Critics brings together small groups of English-speaking children aged 5–14 to watch part of a new children’s film or TV series before anyone else.

After the screening, the children take part in a guided discussion with the filmmakers. They’ll talk about what they enjoyed, what surprised them, what confused them and what could make the story even stronger. A moderator makes sure every child has the chance to share their thoughts.

It’s a unique opportunity for young film lovers to discover how films are made and to have a real impact on stories that audiences around the world may one day watch.

Who can join?

We’re looking for children who are:

  • between 5 and 14 years old
  • comfortable speaking English
  • curious about films and storytelling
  • excited to share their ideas and opinions

Whether they dream of becoming filmmakers or simply love talking about movies, we’d love to hear from them.

When and where?

The sessions will take place during the Cinekid Festival at Pathé Amsterdam Noord from 13 to 15 October 2026.

Each child will attend one session lasting approximately 1–2 hours, depending on their age. A detailed schedule will be shared closer to the event.

What do participants receive?

As a thank you for taking part, every Junior Critic receives:

  • A free ticket to a Cinekid Festival screening
  • Free access to the Cinekid MediaLab
  • The opportunity to meet international filmmakers and be among the first to see exciting new projects

One parent or guardian is welcome to accompany their child.
