Six exciting new children’s film projects selected for second edition of Cinekid Directors LAB

Cinekid welcomes six projects from six European countries for the second edition of Cinekid Directors LAB!

Cinekid's Directors LAB is a vital coaching programme for directors with dynamic works in advanced development. The group comprises a great mix of talented newcomers and award-winning, established directors. Cinekid Directors LAB will take place in April 2022 in Amsterdam.

Gustaf Åkerblom will be developing his project Be Careful What You Wish For, which was part of Cinekid Script LAB 2019-2020. His previous film The Adventures of Halvdan Viking was selected for Cinekid 2019.

Gunnar Björn Guðmundsson is selected with his project The Man Who Hated Children, previously developed within Cinekid Script LAB 2017-2018.

Two participants hail from Cinekid Script LAB 2020-2021: Zara Dwinger will be working on her coming-of-age film Your Mother (working title) while Nora Lakos is selected with her adaptation of I Accidentally Wrote A Book, which took home the Eurimages Co-production Development Award (€20.000) after its selection for Cinekid’s Junior Co-production Market in 2021.

The 2022 Cinekid Directors LAB selection is completed by two Cinekid Best Children’s Film Award winners. Dorothée van den Berghe, who won the Cinekid Lion with Rosie & Moussa at the festival in 2018, will bring her new project Tamar (Script LAB 2019-2020). Christian Lo will develop Ravengirl (Junior Co-production Market 2021). He previously won the Audience Award for Los Bando at Cinekid 2018.

Thijs van der Laak, Coordinator Cinekid for Professionals comments: “After our first and very successful edition of Cinekid Directors LAB, we are thrilled to announce this selection of projects for the upcoming edition. A wonderful range of stories, backgrounds and level of experience will make for an even better second edition”.
