Nominees Media Awards announced

Cinekid and partners en ECP I Platform voor de Informatiesamenleving have nominated several media projects for the Golden Lion, Golden Guppy and Golden Humming Bird as the best media productions of 2018.

The Golden Lion is awarded each year during the Cinekid Festival. Since 2017 Cinekid presents the Golden Guppy and Golden Humming Bird, which were developed with partners and ECP. With the awards Cinekid and partners strive to showcase the full range of projects that were developed over the past year and try to stimulate the quality of new media productions aimed at a younger audience.

The nominees for the Golden Lion are:

All nominated projects will be on display in the MediaLab during the Cinekid Festival, from Saturday 21 October through Friday 27 October. The MediaLab is a 1200m2 digital playground where children can learn in an active way about the possibilities of different media.

The jury, consisting of Farid Tabarki (chairman), Hanneke Metselaar, Jan Robert Leegte, Stephanie Afrifa, Maren Siebert and Paul Stork, will choose a winner from these 11 nominees. The projects will also be considered for an audience award: children can vote for their favourite project during the festival. The winners of the Golden Lion jury and audience award will both receive a cash prize of € 3,000. 

The nominees for the Golden Guppy, the Dutch jury award for the best digital product for pre-schoolers (age 0 - 6) are:

The Best Digital Media Product for Toddlers (aged zero to six) is an initiative of The prize, named the Golden Guppy, is a key part of the annual Cinekid Media Awards. Cinekid and select several distinctive media products, such as (hybrid) apps or digital toys connected to innovative software. A jury reviews products on their originality, look and feel, the user experience and educational potential, and awards the best with a Golden Guppy statuette or a honourable mention.

The jury consists of Denise Bontje, Ilona Jens, Marijke Bos, Merel Beunk, René Glas, Thomas Drucker and Tomas Sala. De kansmakers komen in aanmerking voor het winnen van de award, danwel voor een speciale vermelding van de vakjury.

The nominees for the Golden Humming Bird, the award for the best media project produced by teenagers up to 18 years:

The so-called Golden Humming Bird is a jury award for the best and most exciting media project created by children and teenagers up to the age of 18 years, and is an initiative of ECP | Platform voor Informatie Samenleving. The project can be an app or a website, but also a YouTube channel, a new vlog empire, a DIY talk show or a code experiment. The Golden Hummingbird is awarded for excellence, but perhaps even more so for great ideas and initiatives devised by the next generation. 

The jury consists of young makers Daan Alberts en Jeroen de Wit and professionals Remco Pijpers (Kennisnet) and Sophie Veraart (ECP).
